Nearly one month after Vivek Rajkumar captured the Borgata Poker Open title the World Poker Tour is back in action with the North American Poker Championship at the Fallsview Casino & Resort in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The $10,000 buy-in event will feature three starting days, giving players from across North America time to get to the scenic resort. The event is scheduled for seven days of play with the final table taping set for Thursday, October 16.
Last year the event attracted 504 players for a total prize pool of $5,133,342 CDN. Scott Clements came out on top of a final table that also included runner-up Jonathan Little, Barry Greenstein and under-21 tournament phenom Jeff Garza.
The tournament is the fifth of Season VII for the WPT following the non-televised Spanish Championship, the Bellagio Cup IV, The Legends of Poker and the Borgata Poker Open.
This year‘s field may be hurt by the fact that a number of Las Vegas-based pros may elect to skip the tournament and play the preliminary events of Festa El Lago, currently running at the Bellagio. Preliminary events are scheduled to run there until the WPT Main Event begins on October 20.
Some of the players who are in Niagara Falls for the event include Sorel Mizzi, Jean-Robert Bellande, Daniel Negreanu and Gavin Smith.
