The home of the World Series of Poker is now home to free poker lessons using a special teaching table designed by poker room staff at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.
The table features a specially-designed felt offering players visual references to key elements of a poker game. Hand rankings, betting options and other key characteristics of the game are laid out on the felt making new players feel more comfortable and ready to play.
“Most people that take lessons have either seen poker on television, or played casually online or with friends,” said Poker Room Manager Jerome Stone. “These folks sometimes just want to become more familiar with the process of the game as it plays out in a poker room. This teaching felt really gives beginners a great level of confidence and comfort.”
The free lessons, available at the Rio every day between 10 am and 8 pm, allow students to learn the basics using tournament-style play chips to simulate actual poker room play. The instructors guide students through the game and answer questions throughout the session.
