Michael Phelps Invited to Another Major Poker Tournament
Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps has already been invited to the NBC National Heads-up Poker Championship and the Asian Poker Tour’s Macau stop. Now Betfair has jumped in line and extended an invitation for Phelps to play the World Series of Poker Europe on a freeroll.
Betfair have offered to allow to let Phelps wear his LZR swimsuit while playing but “fear it may not give him the same competitive edge outside of the pool” according to a statement released by the company.
Phelps indicated in a post-Olympic interview that he was an avid poker player and hoped to play in the World Series of Poker soon. Since that time the invites to major tournaments, on a freeroll, have been coming steady.

They followed that up by signing James “P0KERPR033” Campbell as well as Tiffany Michelle, the last woman player remaining in the field at the 2008 WSOP Main Event. Now they’ve added Tracy Scala, a 38-year-old online poker pro who finished ib first season one of Best Damn Poker Show.
Scala’s most recent live cash was for $32,166 in this year’s WSOP Main Event (335th place). Prior to that Scala had not cashed in a live event since November 2006.
