Once upon time there was a backgammon and bridge club in New York City that occasionally spread poker. The club would eventually be the launching pad for the careers of a number of the best players of a generation. This week NBC has put them on the display in the latest theme for Poker After Dark.
Howard Lederer, Dan Harrington, Jay Heimowitz, Mickey Appleman and Steve Zolotow are joined at the table by Mike Schichtman, the former majority owner of the Mayfair Club. The six players have combined to win 16 World Series of Poker bracelets since they broke onto the Las Vegas poker scene in the late 1980s.
Regular fans of Poker After Dark will recognize both Lederer and Zolotow from previous episodes. But the other four players are all newcomers to the show. Lederer has two wins on the show and an overall record of 2 wins and 4 losses. Zolotow made his sole appearance on the show in the very first PAD episode with a fifth place showing.
The six players each paid $20,000 to play for the winner-take-all prize of $120,000. Episodes will air Monday thru Saturday at 2:05 AM with the Saturday night episode being a “Director’s Cut” show featuring a full recap of the week’s events.
