The Asia Pacific Poker Tour is making its first stop ever stop in Auckland, New Zealand at least one local players has responded by dominating early play.
The tournament started with two separate Day 1’s and local poker pro Amant Nauhria leads the way with 94,000 chips which puts him just ahead of Singapore’s Bryan Huang. Nathanael Seet, also from Singapore, lead after Day 1a and now sits in third with 75,500.
The next two spots are taken by Canadians. Jeffrey Dunbar and Andrew Pantling have 70,600 and 62,800 chips respectively.
Eight of the next 12 spots are all filled with Kiwis. Wang Che Chung, Matthew Mitchell, Matt Cheer, Luke Stanford, Jamie Wilson, Chris Tau, Jerome Dyer and Jim Zhou could all ensure that the title of APPT Auckland champion stays on New Zealand soil.
The biggest name in the tournament, 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joe Hachem, is still alive with 22,000 chips.
The $2,400 buy-in event attracted a total field of 306 players creating a prize pool of $511,329. First place will pay $153,393. Only 106 players survived to play Day 2 which will begin at 12:15 pm local time.
