With a field that boasted some of the top Canadian poker players the Coast-to-Coast Poker Championships kicked off World Poker Tour Canada’s inaugural season last weekend at River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC.
“The sport of poker has long been growing in Canada, fostering poker fans and creating world-class poker professionals. It was only a matter of time before WPT offered a tailored tour unique to Canadian poker fans, and couldn’t be more thrilled to finally launch it today,” Steve Lipscomb, WPT Founder, President and CEO.
Keith Wintermans, a 35-year old software consultant, beat a 302-player field in the $3,000 buy-in main event to win the $224,100. That field included Brad Booth, Gavin Smith, Kenna James and Antonio Esfandiari. Wintermans made the final table in the championship the year before and was happy to improve his result.
“Taking down first place this year feels even better because I was on the short stack for a lot of the tournament. I had more than a few lucky spots along the way, but I was a lot more patient this year and it paid off,” said Wintermans.
The WPT Canada Coast-to-Coast Poker Championships television episodes will debut on Canadian television later this summer.
