Phil Laak is pretty excited about these new digital tables that are making their way to many casinos and poker rooms near you, so we here at Bluff figured we would do a little research on the matter. Let’s face it, folks: If Phil is excited about something, we all should take heed. But Phil isn’t the first to bring these tables to our attention. Bluff’s resident rock star Antonio Esfandiari discovered them at last year’s Aussie Millions. In fact, Antonio enjoyed them so much that at his annual WSOP party he had two of them in action, as his guests played for a seat at the WSOP Main Event. Not too shabby.
Some of you traditionalists might be suspicious of these tables, which are manufactured by PokerTek, Digideal, and Gametronix. But the fact is, poker players (if not dealers) should be applauding the inclusion of these tables at their local cardrooms. Not only will the total number of tables increase, and therefore game selection as well, but a plethora of other benefits exists, too.
One thing we noticed with both the DigiDeal X-table and the Gametronix Poker Mate is that they offer various seating configurations. The X-table offers 4-, 6-, 8-, and 10- person tables and the Poker Mate offers 6-, 8-, and 10-person tables. So if you’re an online shorthanded ace, you’ll find yourself right at home on these.
The speed of the game is increased, too. This is, of course, due to the fact there are NO DEALERS. And without dealers you get to see many more hands per hour, whether they be aces or 7-2 off suit. You also won’t see any flipped cards, turn cards dealt prematurely, or pocket kings accidentally mucked because you didn’t protect your cards. Oh yeah, and you won’t have to worry about tokes either, which should add to your profit each day.
So the next time you walk into a casino and see one of these bad boys staring you in the face, you may want to give it a try. Not only will it be fun taking a crack at one of poker’s newest technologies, but you may find yourself making more money than you did in your standard brick and mortar game.
