Heads-Up With Liv Boeree

Grinding it out on the male-dominated circuit must be tough for this beautiful 24-year-old Absolute Poker pro, TV hostess, and model. We were lucky enough to catch up with Liv to chat about the ins and outs of life on and away from the poker table.

BLUFF: What the fi ve bands that you need to have in your iPod?

LIV: A band called Children of Boredom – a Finnish band that no one has heard of – Metallica, Pantera, Duran Duran – I like my ’80s – and Motley Crue.

BLUFF: What’s one thing you can’t travel without?

LIV: A nice pair of boots. If I’ve had a bad day or whatever I can just put on a pair of heavy metal boots. I’ll get rid of my heels and put on boots, then I can just go out and party.

BLUFF: What’s you favorite place in Vegas to party?

LIV: There’s a couple. The Voodoo Lounge is a special place. I remember the fi rst time I ever came to Vegas it was the fi rst party I went to and I thought to myself, “This is the coolest place on Earth.” The rooftop, lots of lights, and mountains of free alcohol at some World Series party. I love the Hard Rock so much also, it’s so dirty and rocker. Actually, I love some of the bars downtown. Like there’s this biker bar down there, it’s dirt cheap and a change from the usual stuff. I’m not really a fan of the clubs like Tao and stuff. A couple of those clubs are okay if you’re in the right mood and with the right people. But I wouldn’t normally go. I like rocker bars where people are getting drunk, knocking stuff over.

BLUFF: What’s a perfect date for you?

LIV: One of the most perfect dates I ever went on was when we went jet skiing. Adventure stuff, you know, like rock climbing or something like that. Actually, that’s a really good date, especially for the fi rst time. The whole sitting down for dinner and then going for drinks afterward is, um, (expression of disdain). I’d much rather do something like rock climbing, because if somebody likes that then we’ll get along, since I love sports, activities, and doing stupid things. Bungee jumping! Let’s go do that. That would be a good fi rst date.

BLUFF: Out of all the places you’ve traveled on the circuit, what’s your favorite destination?

LIV: There’s a couple. I went to the Poker News Cup in Austria. It was all skiing and poker. That was ridiculously good. You skied in the morning and played poker in the afternoon. It was just perfect. The best poker trip I’ve had is Aruba. In the morning you could go jet skiing or tubing behind the boat, even just sun bathing. It was so beautiful. Eight hours of poker and then you could party all night long. That was the best. Then we had a rock band playing, I got to play guitar with them. Then there was a party in the pool every night. That was defi nitely the best poker trip.

BLUFF: Do you have any pet peeves at the table?

LIV: Umm. Twitches. I can’t handle it. There was someone in the High Rollers event; I’ve never seen anyone twitch more. I thought that maybe it was a tell and I was trying to pick up something. But it was just all the time. He was very nervous. Twitching is not the worst. I guess the worst is when somebody really smells. I just can’t deal with it.

BLUFF: Any names?

LIV: No, no names.

BLUFF: Do you get involved with any crazy prop betting?

LIV: We were prop betting in Aruba, who could last longer on the inner tubes behind a speedboat. We were doing some crazy shit, and Michael Binger outlasted us all, he’s ridiculous.

BLUFF: Is Binger just good at everything? Finally, the question all the readers are interested in: Are you single?

LIV: No I’m not single. I’m taken. He’s not a poker player. He’s a rock star and in a rock band in the UK.

BLUFF: You just broke a lot of hearts.
