Deepstacks University

If you took today’s typical video-game player and took away their PS3 or their Xbox 360 and put them in front of an Atari console to play Pong they might go into shock. Maybe something like the amazement and shock that BLUFF felt when we saw the poker education technology being built by DeepStacks University, or as the founders like to call it, “DSU” or simply “The U”.

Before delving into just how awesomely cool this new platform is, it should be noted that the guys putting it together, are a conglomerate of experts in their respective fi elds. Chris Torina and Buff Harris, former detectives who now play poker and understand that lack of knowledge can be very costly. There’s Steve Berman, the co-founder of WPT Boot Camp who has a solid reputation and key contacts in the sport. Then there’s Scott Prewitt, a mainstream media guru. Finally, the man who is one of the biggest keys for the company’s success, Ron Leventhal. Together with Fred Pauzar, Ron is the Chairman of Blackwood Entertainment Group, a Florida- and California-based company that produces and distributes entertainment content worldwide.

The fi rst thing the founders shared with BLUFF was their technology, dubbed Reactive Training Technology ™ or RTT™ for short. All the current methods of online poker, based on the US military training scale, are categorized as level 1 of three possible levels of technology. Level 1 basically means you sit back and listen to a lecture. RTT is categorized as level 2.5.

What does this mean? Well, RTT is a patent pending state of the art educational software platform that is customizable to any form of training. Although they are already receiving requests to license RTT for other training programs outside of poker, The U’s founders chose to pursue their collective passion for poker fi rst. When DeepStacks. com goes live on July 1st, subscribers will encounter an online poker training site like no other.

Through the RTT platform, students will be placed in a specifi c poker scenario, which tests their knowledge and requires them to “react” in real time at a virtual poker table. The education will not be static or broadcasted to them as a lecture, but will react to the student’s choices and guide their learning curve. That’s RTT!

One pretty impressive aspect of the software was while watching the video of the instructor, reading the information, and watching the action at the table, the whole thing would suddenly stop and ask a question. Through the user’s answers, the artifi cial intelligence of the RTT platform would gauge and assess how well the specifi c concept was understood.

“It was a challenge to fi nd a software development partner that could bring their vision of poker education… redefi ned into reality”, stated the founders. They were fortunate to fi nd a company that already had experience building training applications for the US military and was equally excited about The U’s vision.

Aside from the incredible software, the next awesome thing about The U is that Mike Matusow had been brought on as the “The Dean” of DSU. But it doesn’t stop there; along with The Mouth their staff also includes T.J. Cloutier, Tom McEvoy, Michael Binger, Nick Binger, Maria Ho, Liv Boeree, Beth Shak, and Andrew Brown… with more big names to come! The U’s content is based on a collection of winning strategies developed by these pros and is being created as we speak. The content is comprehensive and covers all categories for playing winning poker and new modules will be added daily when The U’s inaugural summer session goes live on July 1st.

Players will begin their education at The U by taking an exclusive series of poker skills assessment tests called the DSAT. The DSAT is not just a list of scenarios with follow up questions, but a fully interactive, simulated session that analyzes a player’s every move and then calculates comprehensive reports detailing their strengths and weaknesses for each set of modules. These reports will suggest the modules that the player needs to improve their game. The player is then guided to The U’s module training center to begin their education.

The U’s method of instruction will be delivered like no other. It will involve the student, be reactive to their responses, and both engage, surprise, and challenge them while measuring their progress. The program will keep students on their toes because at any time during a hand the instructor could ask them a question. The U will offer an ever-growing collection of core poker modules that will be accessible through an initial free trial and then a onetime activation fee and a monthly subscription fee.

Along with all the core content, which will grow daily, The U will offer players an opportunity to sit at the table with their favorite pro. These are exclusive personalized modules called “The Signature Series”.

We at BLUFF cannot wait for the opening session at The U. The poker world has learned a great deal from the educational websites that have sprouted up in the past few years, but the technology at The U promises to take any poker education to a new level. The one-of-a-kind environment, which converts and delivers content in a fully interactive, module-based format, will allow The U to transform the knowledge of today’s greats into an interactive learning experience that ensures that every student will reap the ultimate benefi ts.
