"they said it on the radio"
CLONIE GOWEN
“When I get mad, and when I go on tilt,
is when I am the one who made the
mistake in the hand. It doesn’t bother
me when my opponent makes a
mistake and gets lucky, because that’s
what makes me money in this game”
“If you have something going on in
your life, relationship problems, kids
who are sick, or whatever, you are
just not able to focus like you should.
When you are sitting at the table you
should be watching everything, even
when you are not in a hand. If your
not focused in the game, and you are
thinking about something else, you
will miss a lot of valuable information
about your opponents.”
JOHNNY CHAN
“Well, the past 20 years, I have normally
played only four to five tournaments
in the WSOP, where most of the players
play close to 50, and I have been fortunate
enough to win ten bracelets. I
would like to see myself winning
between fifteen and twenty bracelets
over the course of my poker career.”
“The craziest thing I ever bought with
my poker winnings…Well the first year
I won, I bought myself a Mercedes
which I still have. The license plate
reads JJ333, but I am mostly pretty
smart with investing all my poker
winnings.”

DIRTY WALLY SEZ…
For Ladies Only
On our radio show we ask ourselves, “Why don’t more
women play poker?” Are they bashful? Can they compete?
Are they intimidated by their male counterparts? I’ve been
playing poker for 70 years and I’ve seen fewer than five hundred
women at the poker table. They love craps, blackjack,
even roulette, but you just don’t see many women pulling up
a chair at the tables in the poker room. Poker takes guts and
brains – all traitsoverabundant in the fairer sex. What’s the
matter, ladies? Don’t you like the good life? Look at all the
great female pros like Jennifer Harman and Annie Duke –
poker made them rich and famous. Poker today can be a fast
track to fortune – don’t you want to get out of your caves?
I’m told that behind every VIP is a good, smart woman.
Show the worldand be cool, and then you won’t have to listen
to all of us guys and ourbad beat stories. Call me any time
and I’ll be happy to help with yourgame.
Love to all women – we respect your game,
Dirty Wally (still looking for wife number six - must
playpoker!)
A WORD FROM THE WISE NICK GEBER SEZ...
OK ladies: first up, I really don’t
know what Dirty Wally is going on
about. Every month he drones on and on
about something or other, only toend his piece with a plea to
meet wife number six. Now, I wasn’t aware that Bluff
Magazine had become his personal dating service, but honestly,
the less I know about that side of everyone’s favorite
octogenarian, the better. Enough said. But I will agree with
Wally that too few women find their way to the poker tables.
If more women could muster up the desireor courage to
question the myth of the male-dominated poker room, they
may well find some easy pickings.
Let’s face it: most men lose “it” when an attractive lady sits
down at the table. And our interviews with the top women
players validate this. Men become protectors, chatterboxes, or
even worse, calling stations. Our normal tightly controlled
game goes out the window. We don’t think for a minute that
a woman could bluff us – she must have the nuts, right?
We’ve fielded many calls on this topic on Bluff Poker Radio
(Sirius Satellite Radio ch.122) and would love to hear from
you. In the meantime, play your game and don’t let a nice
smile turn you into fish.
