A WORD FROM THE WISE

NICK GEBER SEZ...

Two years ago I was asked by a radio network, with whom I had been broadcasting for a number of years, about the feasibility of bringing poker to the radio airwaves. Always anxious to talk up my favorite game, I jumped at the chance. In conjunction with Bluff Magazine, Bluff Poker Radio broke new ground when it became America’s first, nationally-syndicated, regularly scheduled poker show airing on a multitude of stations across the US and Sirius Satellite Radio. But we didn’t want to present the kind of show that one would expect. Recognizing that poker players are generally highly intelligent people, we wanted to provide players a forum through which they could discuss their game and then have an opportunity to interact directly with their favorite pros. And the response has been nothing short of superlative, from the listeners to the pros, to eager sponsors who make the show happen. And it’s just going to get better, as we are pleased to announce the expansion of Bluff Poker Radio, as we add another show day during the week. We can now be heard live on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (with replays throughout the week) on Sirius Satellite Radio, the affiliate stations of the Sports Byline Network and on American Forces Radio. Additionally, all of our shows are archived at bluffmagazine.com. And we’ve got some simply stunning announcements coming soon. So stay tuned and thanks for your continued support!

DIRTY WALLY SEZ…

Health is Wealth

So money is something to keep score with. Ask yourself, what’s in a number? On Bluff Poker Radio last week, Slick Nick said I was an octogenarian. In street talk that means old, very old. When I’m in a casino with a young, beautiful woman players say, “Look at Dirty Wally,” just because he drives a Porsche he hooks all those young, beautiful women. He looks like a 50 year old!” You can imagine that I’m quite proud of this. In fact, we usually have a little prop bet – guess the age of Dirty Wally! Naturally, I make plenty of dollars with this one. I love people and the guy upstairs will hopefully keep me alive until I’m 90. Life is like poker. It’s a numbers game. Play your numbers and someday your ship will come in. Those numbers work for me and I can still operate in all ways! (Editors Note: Ugh, that’s a visual we could all do without).

Dirty Wally

Still looking for love and wife #6!

“THEY SAID IT ON THE RADIO”

PHIL LAAK

“There are two sides of the coin, from the pro’s viewpoint, on who do you want to play. Ultimately, to pay the bills, it’s great to play complete fish-heads; people who are just completely lost. But there is something very pure and beautiful about sitting in a game that you have to sit in because, say, it’s a tournament. All of a sudden you say, “Wow, everybody here knows that I know that they know that I know. And you have to play more traditional poker with the occasional move here and there. It’s more familiar to me, it’s how I started.”

FREDDY DEEB

“You have to watch the players when they are playing hands. You will pick up on certain things they do – like throwing their chips in the pot in when they don’t have a hand, and placing them into the pot when they do. Maybe they’ll stare at you a lot. Sometimes you will notice that a player takes a drink of water when they are bluffing. Everybody is different, which is why you have to watch every move that every player makes. Keep that information in your head for when you play a pot with them.”
