The Grand Tournament III recently went down on PokerRoom.com,
and this incredible two-day event created quite a bit
of excitement in the online poker world. Five hundred
players showed up to pony up the $1000 buy-in. The Grand
Tournament features the best blind structure of any
tournament on the net, as blinds only go up every thirty
minutes. Each player starts with a whopping $10,000
in chips, and the first blind level is 25-25! With each
player starting with four hundred big blinds, there
is endless opportunity for the most skillful players
to rise to the top,
and that’s exactly what happened.
“DoubleLucky”, PocketFives.com’s
12th ranked player, took down the tournament and walked
away with the $120,000 first prize!
“DoubleLucky” is possibly the most outspoken
advocate of skillful blind structures, so this tournament
was tailor made for him. That’s why we were shocked
when we first logged on to PokerRoom for updates and
saw that he was down to 3,000 chips during the first
blind level! Turns out he got involved in a tragic hand
where his K-K got rivered by A-2. The good news was
that he still had over 100 big blinds, giving him plenty
of time to pull through. After six and a half hours,
day one was over and Lucky had grinded his way up to
$41,000 chips! He continued his solid play through day
two and pulled off the impressive win against a stellar
final table. Brett Jungblut, better known as “Gank”
in the online world, also finished impressively, taking
18th place and $3800. Congrats to “DoubleLucky”
and “Gank”, and congrats to PokerRoom for
hosting this incredible tournament!
In other tournaments, a new breed of online stars continues
to dominate. None have been as impressive lately as
twenty-one year old Jordan Morgan, AKA “iMsoLucky0.”
Log on to any site to witness his dominance. On a single
Sunday, Jordan took down the $50,000 Guaranteed on Empire
Poker, the $50,000 Guaranteed on Paradise Poker, a $100
tournament on Party, and a Party Poker Million satellite
tournament. That’s four huge wins in one day,
netting him close to $40,000. In the following month
he reached twenty final tables in big buy-in events,
including two wins each over $10,000 in the $100 re-buy
tournament on Stars. Keep your eyes peeled for him as
he is most definitely a rising star who should continue
to ascend the PocketFives.com Online Player Rankings.
