For the second year in a row, ESPN will televise the World Series of Poker Main Event Final Table live. Like last year, the show will be hosted by Oli Nejad, with analysis provided by Phil Gordon. For the 2007 telecast, ESPN has added a sideline announcer, Marianella, who will interview players after they are eliminated and also talk to the players’ family and friends throughout the evening.
Additionally, throughout the telecast, the game’s biggest names Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, and Erick Lindgren among others, will stop in for extended interviews and analysis of the final table. “We are always seeking original ways to help serve the sports fan,” says Jamie Horowitz, the Senior Producer of ESPN Original Entertainment, who oversees ESPN’s World Series of Poker production and will produce the PPV telecast. “Devout poker fans were checking the results in real-time online and we wanted to give them even more.”
New to the broadcast this season will be a graphics program that will generate nearly instantaneous chip counts, percentages (to win the hand), and chip trends. Says Horowitz, “The enhanced graphics package, specifically the detailed stats and trends, will give the announcers the ability to put the match into perspective with hard facts, instead of being limited to analyzing one hand in isolation.”
Poker fans who have specific questions during the telecast can log on to ESPN.com and send questions for Oli and Phil to answer on air. To order the July 17 telecast for $19.95, you can call your pay-per-view provider or log on to ESPN.com, search: poker.
