revision - don't miss Beal is back part II

BIGGEST POKER GAME IN THE WORLD!!!

Andy Beal is back in Las Vegas to take a shot at "The Corporation."  The Corporation is a group of professional players that group their funds together to play heads-up matches against the mathematical genius and financial giant Andy Beal.  You can read about their last adventure in The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King.

We caught word that Andy was back in Vegas, so we flew Matt out to try to get coverage...as well as a great story for the magazine!

He will be posting all updates right here in the forum.  This is a BIG GAME folks!!  We are talking $50,000/$100,000 limit hold'em - so the blinds are $25,000/$50,000!!!!  This should be an interesting read!

From the book:

The "professor" is Howard Lederer, a professional poker player whose rigorous analytical approach to the game earned him his nickname. The banker is Andy Beal, a multimillionaire obsessed with beating the world's best poker players at their game, limit Texas hold 'em, played for stratospheric stakes. The suicide king, a symbol of the aleatory nature of the endeavor, is the king of hearts, who holds his broadsword behind his head. It's a great mix, and Craig (The 5 Minute Investor) offers a knowledgeable and observant chronicle of the high-stakes games between Beal and the syndicate of professional players organized by the "Babe Ruth of poker," Doyle Brunson. The syndicate put up $10,000,000 to sit opposite Beal, trading $100,000 bets. Beal, for his part, took a mathematical approach, at one point running millions of computer simulations of various poker problems, in search of an edge against the pros, who rely on an uncanny intuition honed by thousands of hands. Craig includes enough details about the professionals to allow readers insight into their gambler personalities. Having interviewed many of the participants in this legendary poker battle, he describes it with an appropriate sense of awe, and readers will be awed as well.

A tale of outsize egos, appetites, and ambitions, here is the completely true, heart-stopping story of one man, 20 million dollars, and the most expensive game of poker ever played-with never-before-revealed details of what really happens at the game's highest levels. In 2001, a stranger from Texas descended on the high-stakes poker room at the world famous Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. His name was Andy Beal, and he had come to play. Challenging some of the best players in the world, including Doyle Brunson, Johnny Chan, Howard Lederer, and Jennifer Harman, the result was a series of seven unforgettable poker games, including the final showdown-a single game with a jackpot of more than 20 million dollars.

Latest word from Matthew...

He has solidified a seat at a table that is as close as feasibly possible to the action of the big game.  While trying to take a picture for the coverage, he was almost escorted out of the casino!

Todd Brunson is now heads up against Andy Beal.  $50,000/$100,000 limit hold'em is the game.

Starting stacks of $10,000,000.  No significant change for the first hour...Andy just took down a $500,000 pot.

Has anyone read "The Professor, The Banker, and the Suicide King" ? What did you think?

I've been thinking about it, but haven't ponied up the dough for the book. I'm nearly done with "The Biggest Game In Town" and its interesting, but not great IMO

Who flung POO?

I'd tell you to go to hell, but I work there and I don't want to see you every day.

Matt has been able to get right into the conversations amongst the members of "The Corporation"

Since Todd Brunson won the most money from Beal in the past, The Corporation threw Brunson in the ring as their star player.  Andy will be making the decisions on who he plays next.

The Corporation wanted to start at $30,000/$60,000 because Andy will historically bump the limits mid-game....they didn't want the possiblity of Andy raising from $50,000/$100,000 to $100,000/$200,000 after a couple hours.  Andy would have none of that - the game started at $50,000/$100,000

They are most likely going to be playing three days of poker...barring any catasprophic occurances.

"The Professor, The Banker, and the Suicide King" is a friggin GREEEAT book.  If you love poker and the thought of being enamored by the whole idea of uber high-stakes poker, you'll love the book.
