This was a bunch of friends that get together to enjoy a little poker.  $25 buy in, quiet, respectful and finished by 1030/1100 at the latest.  Never any problems until last Wed when the cops kicked down the door.

After reading the article, it doesn't sound like anything is over at 1030/1100.  I agree that simple home games shouldn't be getting raided, but don't try to sugar-coat something and link to an article that contradicts what you're trying to say.

Thats just the point.  The paper got the facts wrong.  The police called the media before they made the raid.  The news crews reported on what the State Police expected to find, not the actual facts.

Now that makes more sense.   Our local paper will print what the police say,  not bothering to investigate it themselves.
I have seen many times where the headlines talk about the police raiding a house and finding "assault weapons" and show a picture of the guns all laid out.  Upon inspection I would see a .22 bolt action,  a Rugar .22 semi auto,  a single shot 12 guage,  and an assortment of hunting rifles.   Hardly what a terrorist would accumulate for anti govt. purposes.

I HATE local Police Depts. What they say goes, no matter the actual Facts. But Monkeybutt will agree, we have already had this discussion on here b4 about Police....

see. that's why its good to get in good with you're local PD.  We have a couple cops as regulars to our game, and I went to high school with about half the local PD brass these days (cuz I'm old!).  If our game was getting outta hand, they'd give a "gentle nudge" to let us know to knock it off, but they haven't.

Unfortunately, not all PDs are like that, and you get some Barney Fife's that want something to do.  Sucks.  Don't know the facts 100%, but its a shame if, as they say this was based on local complaints, that they couldn't just pop in and say "knock off, fellas".

Sad thing is--it was the STATE Police who busted the game.  Local and county guys are all very cool.  A number of them play the tourneys.  Have for years.  Wondering if this isn't the start of a wider crack down...

The fact that you have tourneys where "local and county guys" play means that it's open to the public means that it's commercial means that it's illegal.

Does this make it suck any less for you? No. However it does become something that the laws are clearly against.
