Topic: Need help 'perfecting' my gamePosted: 23-July-2009 at 6:40am |

I'm a big fan of poker, I play on PokerStars.com, I usually just play the tables and play money Sit N Go. I have entered a few tournaments and the best I did was 249th out of 9000.
I completely understand the game, but I need to start learning the math side of the game. IE: "Whats the % of me winning the pot, should I call with these cards, etc" I just want to be able to enter, say a $2 tournament and atleast make a little bit of cash here and there. I need to be able to tell myself if it's worth it to call, notice paterns to see if this guy/girl is bluffing and know how much to bet at certain times myself.
So, my question is should I read a book or play at a training site. If it's a book I need, which book do I read, if it's a site I need, which site do I go to.
Any help is appreciated! (:

I'd play for Play money so you start to develop instinct on value of making calls/folds/betting. At the same time, pick up Hold Em Strategy, by Daniel Negreanu and More Wisdom, also by Negreanu. He'll get into examples, odds, pot odds, percentages of winning (And losing of course).
Good Luck.

Picked up the Negreanu books, reading the Wisdom one currently, shouldn't take much longer to finish it. After the other one I'll be picking up the Harrington Volume I-III. Learned a lot so far.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Go to Amazon.com, and you could pick up the Harrington 1-3 series for less than $60. Wow, you could use the money you just saved and play a quick MTT. You never know!!!!
