My name is Joshua parsons I’m a SSG in the army.

I was at LAS Anaconda back in 06 and was playing in a poker tournament sponsored by screaming eagle poker. I’m now back in Iraq and want to know how I can get the same thing here in Camp Liberty. If anyone knows how or where to point me in the right direction would be very helpful.

SSG Parsons,

I'd be happy to help as best I can. I sent you an email to the above addresses with my direct line so please call me so we can talk about our options with Camp Liberty. We used to have a league at Camp Liberty similar to LSA Anaconda about 2 years ago. Unfortunately, the Camp Liberty operation was shut down due to the combination of high expenses incurred and the sporadic (at best) updates with league stats and pictures. It is hard to keep sending supplies and prizes donated by our many sponsors (such as Bluff) if they are not used correctly and, more importantly, if we can't communicate easily with the leadership of those leagues. Understand our operations are more than just a handout. While we have done everything we could to support our troops in combat, we can't maintain such high level of expenses without an equal level of support in return. Everything from the the pre tournament registration through the group photos we need of our players with the donated prizes is necessary. Training videos were professionally developed through years of trial and error on the easiest and most efficient ways to run weekly tournaments in combat zones but they were either not being watched, or the advice was being ignored. It's a great feeling to be able to submit organized group photos of our players holding up the prizes donated by our sponsors so they have something for their wall at the office or house but even getting something as simple as this done started to feel like pulling teeth. The thing is, I'm not trying to pass blame, Its hard to be staff to a professionally run weekly poker tournament in the middle of a combat zone since each staff member has their own higher priority mission in the support of combat operations. For this reason, reliability is shaky at best. It can be as easy as having our players blog on this forum space which Bluff was so nice to offer us, and you can see that great turnout so far. With that said, If you can build a team with you out there that shares your desire to re building the Screaming Eagle Poker operations at Camp Liberty, please call me day or night.

Mr. Davis,

I read your post to SSG Parsons and was wonder if I could get the same info.  I am a Religious Program Specialist (RP2) in the Navy.  Which ois a fancy way of saying I'm the Chaplain's bodyguard.  I am currently stationed on a ship that will shortly be moving to a remote island and the crew will be leaving there families behind for at least a year.  I need something to help keep the moral up during this time.  Being an avid poker player myself and having watch your company grow from the ground up I think we could work well together.  Basically I need as much information from you as possible so I can present this idea to my Chain of Command.  If you could get that to me I would greatly appreciate it.  My email addresses are:  paulthedealer@yahoo.com and ssmith@as39.navy.mil.  I look forward to hearing from.  Thank you for your time and have a great day.

Very Respectfully,
RP2(FMF) Scott P. Smith

Good Afternoon/Evening Mr. Davis,

I am much in the same... Erm... Boat as RP2 Smith. I am currently with a unit that is deployed to Camp Taji, Iraq and we are in the process of establishing a weekly/Bi-Weekly poker tournament for between 30 and 60 service members. (We even let the Air Force play if they come.)

I have read over you response to SSG Parsons and can assure you that we do have several individuals in leadership positions that are already backing our existing program. Right now the tournaments are being run by our Chaplains Assistant with the help from various other enlisted, but we are looking for outside help/experience in getting this great idea fully off the ground.

I attempted to find contact information on the Screaming Eagle Poker site but seem to have run into some technical difficulties with the contact page. This seemed the best alternative way to contact you. If you could please contact me at either Dkola1@aol.com or Derek.B.Kolakowski@us.army.mil I would love to know what we can do to get a Screaming Eagle Poker tourney to become a mainstay event here in Taji.

Warm Regards,
Spc. Derek Kolakowski

For the guys in the NAVY, I may be able to help you. I myself, am a former ABE2 (SWCC, AW, SW). WHen I was staioned on board the USS Kitty Hawk, we had a Civilian MWR Rep. If you have a Civilian Rep on board, they should be able to get the ball rolling a little quicker.

You guys be carefull out there, stay safe.
